Jimmy carter spent only 4% of his life as president but nearly 44% of his life in retirment and he accomplished several stuff during his "retirement years" first he and his wife rosalynn returned to the town of plains georgia (the state) to the same house they built there in '61 and they would live there for the rest of their lives and mostly carter lived a humble existence he was frugal and he spent most of his time writing AND volunteering basicly not trying to profit from the fact he used to be president he didn't fly in private jets instead he flew commercial flights he was also a regular at the maranatha baptist church teaching sunday school there for NEARLY FORTY YEARS and diplomacy and humanitarian work was a VERY BIG part of carters "retirement" years he constantly met with world leaders to aid in negotiations on his endless quest for world peace and stability this included negotiations with notorious dictators carter regularly spoke publicly about politics and he criticized both republican and democrat presidents but met with all of them to try to find common ground and promote national unity he wrote 34 books most of them published during his retirement books about everything from politics to his religious beliefs to woodworking and fishing and even a children's book he founded the carter center at Emory University in atlanta, carter famously regularly volunteered for habitat for humanity an organization that provides housing for folks going through poverty carter died december 29th 2024 at 100 years old
